cases, more than ever recorded in a single day in the U.S. and a 24% increase from the previous week\u2019s numbers.\u00a0 The seven-day average for reported infections is 76,302 per day, the Covid Tracking Project reports, with 46,095 Americans currently hospitalized with the coronavirus, and 1,049 deaths reported Thursday.\u00a0<br><br>The news comes as the number of total COVID-19 infections in the U.S. nears nine million, with at least 8,947,862 reported cases as of Thursday morning, according to data compiled by <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/abcaudio.us4.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=e7c6daf297b0d503640349bcb&amp;id=3f51ee60d8&amp;e=e42c4dc170\" target=\"_blank\">Johns Hopkins University<\/a>.\u00a0 That number remains more than in any other country and accounts for just under 20% of global infections.\u00a0 To put those numbers into perspective, the U.S. didn\u2019t surpass 500,000 reported cases until early April, nearly three months after the country reported its first confirmed COVID-19 case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
