Two dozen arrested in Louisville during Thursday night Breonna Taylor protests<\/strong>
At least 24 people were arrested in Louisville, Kentucky Thursday night as citizens continue to protest a grand jury decision earlier this week not to indict police officers in connection with Breonna Taylor\u2019s shooting death March 13.\u00a0 The Louisville Courier Journal<\/em> reports<\/a> other protestors gathered in a local church and negotiated with police on how to exit without immediately being arrested for allegedly violating curfew.\u00a0 One officer involved in the Breonna Taylor shooting was indicted on charges of wanton endangerment for firing into an adjacent apartment and putting the lives of Taylor\u2019s neighbors at risk.\u00a0 \u00a0Meanwhile, protests continue elsewhere, including in Portland, Oregon, where KATU reports<\/a> the city is bracing for two potentially violent rallies over the weekend, including one by the right-wing Proud Boys group.

The greatest number of reported COVID-19 cases in the U.S. is in California, with 800,273 confirmed cases out of a total state population of 39.51 million.\u00a0 That ranks third in the world after Maharashtra, India, which has 1,282,963 reported cases, and Sao Paulo, Brazil, which has 958,240 reported cases.

CDC now forecasting up to 226,000 COVID-19 deaths by mid-October; VA gov, wife test positive<\/strong>
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a> is now forecasting between 214,000 and 226,000 U.S. deaths from COVID-19 by October 17.\u00a0 The previous forecast was for between 205,000 and 217,000 U.S. COVID-19 fatalities by the week ending October 3.\u00a0 As of Friday morning, Johns Hopkins University<\/a> reports there have been 202,827 coronavirus fatalities in the U.S. so far, which remains the most deaths of any single country.\u00a0 Friday morning, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam and his wife, Pamela, revealed they\u2019d both tested positive for COVID-19.\u00a0 Both were tested after a member of their staff revealed they had tested positive.\u00a0 The governor\u2019s office said in a statement that only Mrs. Northam so far was experiencing symptoms, which were described as \u201cmild.\u201d

Google Maps adds local COVID-19 data<\/strong>
Worried about COVID-19 infections in your area?\u00a0 Check Google Maps.\u00a0 Google says<\/a> they\u2019ll begin rolling out an update in the coming week that will add an optional layer of COVID-19 data.\u00a0 If you tap the layers icon in the upper-right corner \u2013 that\u2019s the one you go to if you want to change the map view to terrain, satellite or street \u2013 you\u2019ll see a \u2018COVID-19 info\u2019 option.\u00a0 Select it, and Google says, \u201cYou\u2019ll then see a seven-day average of new COVID cases per 100,000 people for the area of the map you\u2019re looking at, and a label that indicates whether the cases are trending up or down.\u201d\u00a0 Other relevant info will be available as well, all of which Google says it pulls from sources including Johns Hopkins University, The New York Times<\/em> and Wikipedia.\u00a0 The COVID-19 data will be available on both Android and iOS platforms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
