There are now more than nine million reported cases of COVID-19 in the United States, with 9,209,265 as of Monday morning, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. Last Friday morning, there were 8,947,862 reported U.S. cases, an increase of 261,403 in 72 hours. Also Monday morning, there were 231,003 reported COVID-19 deaths in the U.S., an increase of 2,328 since Friday morning. The U.S. continues to lead the world in total COVID-19 cases and deaths, with 19.7% and 19.2% of global totals, respectively.
COVID-19 cases continue to surge across the U.S. An ABC News analysis of the most recent data finds 39 states and the District of Columbia reporting increased cases, 45 reporting hospitalization increases and 26 reporting an increase in fatalities. Thirty states hit a record number of new cases in October, with 22 reporting record coronavirus hospitalizations and 11 hitting record numbers of deaths.
The Covid Tacking Project daily update on Sunday reported more than 74,000 cases, nearly 10,000 more than the previous Sunday, with some 48,000 people currently hospitalized. It further reports South and North Dakota have been posting the highest number of coronavirus cases per capita for the past two months, with Wisconsin, Montana and Wyoming are also experiencing spikes in their case per capita numbers.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is currently forecasting from between 243,000 and 256,000 coronavirus fatalities by the week ending November 21. The CDC’s previous forecast estimated there would be from 235,000 to 247,000 COVID-19 deaths by the week ending November 14.
